Should I ever choose the flop
shot?…
By Tom Ream, PGA Head Instructor
at the Pinewild Golf Academy in
Pinehurst, NC.
The first thing you must decide
is the risk worth the reward?
Secondly, you will be choosing
one of golf’s hardest shots from
a difficult situation at a
crucial point in your round or
match. So, to me, the answer is
almost always a resounding
NO!
We continually here about and
see Tiger Woods and Phil
Mickelson playing flop shots and
to a large degree having success
with them. Please realize that
PGA Tour players are extremely
skilled athletes who have a lot
more time to practice than most
amateur golfers.
So, next time you are faced with
a flop shot ask your self these
two questions…. If I tried this
shot 10 times…. how many would I
get up and down? And, of the
shots I did not get up and
down…. what score did I make???
Bogey? Double Bogey or worse????
My personal goal with this golf
tip is to lead you away from
playing flop shots…. from my
experience flops shots usually
end up like their name
suggests…. a flop.
