The Non-Slice Grip
PGA of America Professional Tom
Ream says "the proper grip is
the key to curing your slice".
The only reason a golf ball
slices is that the clubface is
OPEN at impact.
The primary reason the clubface
returns open is due to a weak or
unbalanced grip. The fix is a
relatively simple one, but
requires a sound understanding
of the proper grip and a good
amount of practice.
Grip Fundamentals
-
The club should
be placed in the fingers of
both hands.
-
Both V’s should
point to the right shoulder.
-
Grip pressure
light but constant (4 out of
10)
Drills:
-
Split-Grip
drill: Separate the hands
(about 2 inches) on the club.
Make regular swings. This
drill promotes faster squaring
of the clubface.
-
Hinge and
Re-Hinge drill: Swing the
club back only to where your
right arm is parallel to the
ground and the shaft is
vertical (hinged). Swing the
club forward to the mirror
image position (re-hinged).
This drill promotes the proper
movement of the hands, club,
and arms.
