PINEWILD WOMEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION

It’s officially fall the best time of the year for golfing in North Carolina!

Another ‘You Go Girl’ congratulations to Karen Wirt for her Hole-in-One on Holly 3. Let’s get a few more before the end of the year.

Interclub I played their final match for this season on September 7 at Foxfire. The Pinewild Blues placed third overall. Way to go girls!!

It was a lovely day for Sadie Hawkins. There was a party going on at the 16th tee box, which slowed play a bit but it appears, a good time was had by all. Congratulations to the flight winners.

Our next Informal Guest day is October 5. Hopefully the weather will be perfect so our guests can have great outing. Solheim is October 9, 10, and 12. The sign-up sheet has already been filled. If you didn’t make it, sign–up as an alternate, things are always a-changing. Queen of the Hill is scheduled for October 16. All you Ace-of-the-Day’s start honing your skills.

October 12 and 13 is the Tar Heel 2-day tournament at Macgregor Downs. The last Pinetop is at Southern Pines on October 19.

We’ve invited the 9 Holers to join us the afternoon of October 26 for a scramble on the Magnolia back followed by a cocktail party. Only 36 from each organization can play so sign-up early.

Don’t forget to join the competition for Club Champion/President’s Cup, October 27 – 29. Wow, October is one very busy month.

Remember, the PWGA only functions through the efforts of its membership. Chairing a committee or a special event is not only your way to help, it’s a great way to support the organization and meet and work with a lot of great women. Let Carole Roth (or any board member) know what you are interested in volunteering to chair/co-chair for our 2007 season.

Everyone get out there and swing it. Whether the shot is straight or errant, just have fun. Sandy Gruin

NINE HOLE LADIES GOLF LEAGUE…(AKA, NINE AND DINE GROUP)

Hello Golfers!!  Well what a great month we had with the weather turning into perfect golf weather. “Ain't it great”? I have lots to report this month so I will get started right away.

Remember, last month I told you that we were going to have our very popular 9/18 hole scramble…popular it was. All 72 slots were taken and played. It was a beautiful day and we all had a great time. You should have seen the dining room. The tournament committee, headed this time by Mary Jane Hegedus, placed delightful sprinkling cans with live greens and gardening tools set on each table. Everyone was hoping they would be the one to win the drawing for these centerpieces. Lunch was another delicious offering by Chef Todd and staff. Here is the outcome of the scramble.

First Place and second place were determined by score card decision due to a tie score of 27.

First Place…Connie Norman, Judy Preboske, Louise Clifford and Bobbie Mertins

Second Place…Carol Smith, Shirley Wake, Barb Vincenti and Marilyn Zimmerman

Third Place…Kathy Snider, Sue Zande, Carol Palmquist and Barb Rueb

Closest to the Pin…Pat Finerty (9) and Anita Brewer (18)

Congratulations to all of you. We all had so much fun that day. The PWGA has decided to host another scramble for the two leagues on THURSDAY, October 26th. Golf fee is $3.00 for the nine-hole league to be paid day of play. The sign-up sheet will be up at the end of September. This will fill-up fast so get you name in early.

The Nine Hole League is hosting a "Rally for the Cure" fund raiser for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation on October 17th. This is a regular play-day and is voluntary for players. Those who wish to participate in the fund raiser should sign-up beforehand. The fee is $15.00 paid to the Foundation. For the fee, you may receive a free subscription to “Golf for Women” magazine. There will be prizes given out at lunch time. Lunch will be the regular Tuesday Buffet. (no ordering off the menu) The play-day is open to all our members, so you may chose to play without participating in the fund raiser. Those who decide to do that will not be eligible for any prizes. In addition, one of our members, Barb Vincenti, has made and donated beautiful pierced earrings using the pink ribbon logo. These are being sold for $2.00 a pair. All monies for the earrings will be sent to the foundation.    This is a popular outing, so sign-up early.

The Nine Hole Golf League is a group of all level golfers that meet on Tuesdays for nine holes of golf and lunch.  It is a great way to enjoy the game and make wonderful friendships. We will be having our elections of board officers this month. If you are interested in serving on the board for next year, or interested in joining our league, please call Sue Rantala at 215-4518 or Fran Mellios at 215-0738.
