PINEWILD WOMEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION
Whew!! Hope all who are playing are drinking lots of liquids. Our new procedures seem to working well and the Board appreciates your cooperation in taking the time to post scores.
We are having good participation in the various tournaments in the area and have many winners at each. Don’t forget to check the bulletin board for sign-up sheets. Our Interclub team is having a stellar year so be sure to congratulate them.
We have a couple lowest scores to announce; Dee McMahon had a 79 on the Holly Red on June 25th, and I had an 80 on the Holly Red on July 14th. Speaking of lowest scores, we’re looking for the five lowest scores on each of our courses, Magnolia, Holly Red and Holly Gold. Please let any Board member know if you have scores in the 70’s or low 80’s on any of these courses any time beginning in the year 2000.
Thanks to Sallie Blecharczyk and Chris Robertson for their good job running our first guest day. We had a great turn out and it was a great day.
Be sure to let Sandy Gruin know if you are interested in volunteering for any of our many committees in 2006.
Try to stay cool and play well…Gay Strojny
NINE-HOLE LADIES’ LEAGUE
Well it is safe to say that we were all HOT golfers this month. Hope you all survived the extremely hot weather. In spite of the weather, we have had a great turn-out and a lot of fun golf over the past few weeks and hope to continue this trend, hot or otherwise.
We are looking forward to this years 9/18 Hole League golf outing on September 13th. Please mark your calendars. This event is one of the highlights of our Golf season. Both leagues really enjoy the opportunity to get together for this scramble. The tournament committee has already met with Chef Todd to determine the menu. Unfortunately, I was unable to find out the details before this newsletter. Based on the past outings this year, I am sure it will be another great lunch.
Barb Rueb has been in touch with Longleaf, and we are hoping that we will have some visitors from that league come and play in September.
The Nine-Hole Ladies League accepts new members any time during the golf season. So if you are interested in joining a group that loves to play golf, laugh a lot, and enjoy lunch, all in one day…call Barb Rueb at 295-4908, we’d love to have you join us.
While studying my glossary of Golf Terms, I learned that a shot where the ball lands close to the Flag stick is called a “Stony”. Me, I’d call it a “Great Shot”
See you on the Links…Sue Wisniewski

NEWS, NEWS and more NEWS!!!
Cooler days are ahead, I promise…
The Pinewild Member/Guest is scheduled for the middle of September. Information is available from the Golf Shop or via the Internet – www.pinewildcc.com in the “Members” section under Club News…Golf. This is always a great event, which is well attended – get your entry in early.
Thanks to all the members who attended, and ensured the success of, the “50’s Party” – also a big thanks to the Elderly Brothers who provided the enjoyable music. Mark your calendars for the next event couple of events…The Italian Night Dinner on the 17th of August, the Social Two Hours & Dinner on the 2nd of September and the Pub Night on the 8th of September.
The Renovation of the back nine of the Magnolia course is going well, with the tenth, eleventh and twelfth holes now complete. We fully expect to have the greens on all nine holes ready for seeding by the 1st of September. We are very excited about the changes, and have received numerous positive comments from those members who have been following the progress.
Congratulations to Tom Ream, PGA Head Golf Instructor at the Pinewild Golf Academy, who just got ranked #2 Golf Instructor in the entire state of North Carolina by Golf Digest. Tom has been with us for five years now, and has grown the Academy and the instructional programs that are offered. Tom’s direct line is 910.235.9191, and I know that he would be more than welcome to assist any members with a personal program to better golf.
We have many events planned as we move into the cooler fall months; we look forward to seeing you at as many of these events as possible, and as always…thank you for your support of Pinewild Country Club of Pinehurst.
Club Manager, Christopher Little
HAVE YOU TRIED TWILIGHT OR PAR CHASERS LATELY???…
Pinewild offers two flavors of evening golf followed by a buffet dinner each month. Each event uses a shotgun start in the late afternoon. The exact times and specifics are posted on the bulletin board two weeks prior to each event. A $5 entry fee per couple is collected for prize money (Golf Shop Credit) with the lucky winners announced during dinner.
Twilight Golf is designed to be a mixer and get to know folks. Sign-up and play as couples, with fun being the key word as the coordinators configure teams of 4 couples each month. We play a 9-hole scramble with the men teeing off on odd numbered holes, and then the ladies select which ball to play and all hit, and then the men select which ball to play, etc. until the ball is holed out. On even numbered holes the ladies tee off and the men select, etc. A designated par 3 will have both the ladies and the men tee off and then select the best shot.
The second event is called Par Chasers where the game is nine holes of regular golf. Sign-up for this event is by team (2 couples). The game is better ball of the ladies, added to the better ball of the men, to generate a team score. Full handicaps are used thus a USGA handicap is required to participate. Again following the golf event we have refreshments and dinner for all those who worked up an appetite on the course.
Due to food preparation costs, cancellations within 48 hours of the event cannot be accepted for both Twilight and Par Chasers. Should either event need to be cancelled due to weather (golf not the food), you will be contacted and the dinner portion will be held as planned.
Any questions about either event, please contact the coordinators:
Twilight – Jack or Pat Finnerty…215-0264
Par Chasers – Fred or Bonnie Berry…235.9237
