PINEWILD MEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION
The PMGA Executive Board would like to invite all Pinewild Country Club of Pinehurst members to join the PMGA. The PMGA provides weekly play day competitions at Pinewild on Thursdays, numerous tournaments throughout the year, monthly away games at other area courses, interclub play, and a Hole-in-One Club that provides cash prizes to members who score a hole-in-one. The cost is $35 for the PMGA and $20 for the optional Hole-in-One Club. To join, make out a check for the appropriate amount and put it in the PMGA lock box in the locker room.
We will kick off the 2006 season with the PMGA Opener on March 2nd. The event is a five-man elimination scramble with breakfast and lunch. Regular Thursday play-days will continue throughout the winter.
The PMGA distributes information to members throughout the year via E-Mail. If you are not receiving these E-mails and would like to do so, forward your E-mail address to Larry Perkinson at lwp3@minspring.com.
The PMGA welcomes the following new members:
Dick wright, Randy Menear and Leon D’Onle.

I hope everyone had a warm and peaceful Holiday Season and ushered in the New Year with a glass of Good Cheer. Even though we may have already broken our New Year’s resolutions, spring will soon be here and we can turn our thoughts to a busy, fun-filled 2006 PWGA season.
Our closing luncheon for the 2005 season was held on December 8th. Many thanks to Jan Cashion and her committee for a well organized and beautifully decorated luncheon. Thank you, Todd, for once again demonstrating your excellent culinary skills with a delicious and attractively presented meal. Thank you all for your generous donations to First Health Hospice…and thank you, Peggy, for closing our luncheon by leading us in a rousing rendition of Jingle Bells.
Your new PWGA board was presented: Sandy Gruin, President; Carole Roth, Vice President; Jan Cashion, Treasurer; Jane Waldemar, Secretary; Susan Schmehl, Social Chairwoman; Nanette Prosser/Lois Pollard, Tournament Directors; Louise Pryor/Jude Winkley, Tournament Director Elects; Anita Brewer and Emily Hamilton, Members-at-large. We want to again thank Gay Strojny, Ex-Officio, for a wonderful 2005 and look forward to her guidance in 2006. We want to welcome our newly added Adjunct Members to the board: Judy Mills/Grace Hill, Interclub I, Judith Kelley/Karen Wirt, Interclub II; Linda Bell/Kay Rednour, Pinetops; and Brenda Hiscott, Tarheels. The board would like to give a special thanks to all who volunteered for the various committees. This allowed us to announce all the Committee Chairwomen for 2006 at the closing meeting.
The 2005 season closed with a membership of 189 ladies. Congratulation goes to Florence Miller, our “Queen of the Hill” and to the “Most Improved Golfer”, Debbie Regula. Please check out the bulletin board in the locker room for the details on Birdies, Ringers, Chip-ins and points.
We all deserve a pat on the back for adjusting to the 27-hole play rotation and for our excellent pace of play. Commencing with our Opening Breakfast/shotgun, March 7th, we will be playing on Tuesdays through May. We will return to Thursday play, alternating morning and afternoon with the men, in June through to our Closing Luncheon. To show our appreciation to the Nine Hole Ladies for inviting us to play with them, we have added an 18/9 Invitational Tournament to the schedule which we will host in late October.
Hopefully you have all had the opportunity to take advantage of our winter Thursday sign-ups and are warming your game up for a great 2006 season. See you on the tee.
Sandy Gruin

A NOTE FROM THE ADVISORY BOARD…
On December 16th, your Advisory Board had the distinct pleasure of distributing the membership’s annual Christmas Gift to the Pinewild employees. Everyone gathered in the clubhouse, management provided coffee and doughnuts, Christmas music filled the air and the true spirit of the season was felt by all.
In a year with so many natural disasters impacting us, it was gratifying that so many of you remembered those whose work to bring us such pleasure.
There was a thirty-eight per cent increase in membership participation this year and your generosity touched many, and their appreciation was heartfelt. Your Board was honored to represent all of you.
Diane Vosilus, President
NEWS, NEWS and more NEWS!!!
Thanks for ALL YOUR SUPPORT in ALL the MANY EVENTS that were contested in 2005, and your understanding during the renovation of the back nine of the Magnolia Golf Course. The 2006 year will be as busy as ever, and we look forward to your continued support.
The Calendars [listing Club events] for 2006 were recently sent, if you do not have a copy, please let me know and I will immediately forward one to your attention.
THANK YOU also to all the members who supported and gave so generously to the “Employee Year-End” fund – it was sincerely appreciated by all the employees.
Congratulations to the winners of the Bloody Mary Bash. What a wonderful turnout of almost 100 players and the best weather that one could have hoped for…Flight One…Jean Grieshaber, Jan Novak, Jim McMahon & Cal Erdman…Flight Two…Carole Roth, Carol Smith, Dick Wright & Stew Schmehl…Flight Three…Karen Gilbert, Spike Billings & Bob Welter…Flight Four…Debra Smith, Jean Weiler, Mike Hmel and Jim Miller…Flight Five…Anke Buller, Marge Cherep, Ted Davison and George Waterworth.
Throughout the months of January and February, we will continue with the 27-hole rotation. However, please note that only 18-holes [on the big courses] will be open on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Wednesday through Sunday will see all 27-holes open, except for the 22nd of February when we will be aerating the greens.
Starting in March and running through May, with the exception of only a few Mondays, all 36-holes will be open for play.
As the weather and projects permit, we will be opening the newly renovated back nine of the Magnolia course for play on selected days. Unfortunately, this will come with little warning, and possibly only notice given on the “day of play”…we hope you enjoy the new changes to the Magnolia.
As was the case last few years, we will be doing some renovations in the clubhouse this winter. Most of the renovations will be done in the kitchen and the snack bar areas, as well as some minor repairs in the general clubhouse area. With this in mind, the restaurant and ALL dining, bar and snack bar service will be unavailable from Monday February 6ththrough Thursday February 9th. Lunch and regular food and beverage service will then start back on Friday the 10th of February. Additional information will be forthcoming.
I trust that all had a safe and joyous holiday season, and the Ownership, Management and Staff wishes you and yours a peaceful and prosperous 2006.
Christopher Little, PGA
Club Manager
