PINEWILD COUNTRY CLUB PERSPECTIVE
PINEWILD MEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION
The 2006 PMGA season is in full swing. The season kicked off on March 2nd with Opening Day five-man elimination scramble with breakfast, lunch and a business meeting. The first away game is scheduled for March 13th at Woodlake. Cost is $45 for golf, lunch and prizes. Interclub play and the Holly Challenge will begin in April. Also, on April 6th is the Lil’ Abner Tournament. Look for more information on these events and sign-up in the locker room.
Congratulations to Chuck Mills for a hole-in-one on the 17th hole of the Holly Course and Bill Caso for a hole-in-one on the 3rd hole of the Holly. As a hole in one club member, Chuck received a $200 cash award.
The PMGA welcomes the following new Members:
Walt Blackwell, Miles Baldwin, Cliff Messervy, Dick Hoffman, Bernard Schultz, Ralph Hendrix, Michael Busch, William Caso, Walt Danker, David Lynn, Rocco Simone and Anthony Price
The PMGA Executive Board would like to invite all Pinewild Country Club of Pinehurst members to join the PMGA. The PMGA provides weekly play day competitions at Pinewild on Thursdays, numerous tournaments throughout the year, monthly away games at other area courses, interclub play, and a Hole-in-One Club that provides cash prizes to members who score a hole-in-one. The cost is $35 for the PMGA and $20 for the optional Hole-in-One Club. To join, make out a check for the appropriate amount and put it in the PMGA lock box in the locker room.

PINEWILD WOMEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION
January was surprisingly mild and February was seasonable despite the ground hog’s prediction of 6 more weeks of winter. Many of you took advantage of the weather provided opportunity to get out and hone those golf swings or maybe just tried to get all the frustration shots out of the system before the season started.
Our opening day is March 7th and from the looks of the “Swing into Spring” sign-up sheet we are going to have a great turn out. Here’s hoping the weather will cooperate and we will have a great opening day Elimination Scramble as well.
The Member/Guest committee has been working hard on organizing what will be a cruisin’ Member/Guest on April 23rd. Hopefully everyone registered and submitted their check for a $100 on opening day. If you didn’t make it, contact them and see if there is still space.
There’s a new kid in town. This is the inaugural season for Moore County Interclub II. The participating clubs are Mid South/Talamore, Pinehurst, Pinewild and Whispering Pines. Now more of our ladies will have an opportunity to represent the PWGA in competitive play. We want to give a big ‘Thank You’ to Judith Kelley and Karen Wirt and the representatives from the participating clubs for their efforts in organizing and getting Interclub II launched.
On Opening Day we receive our membership book inserts with all the event schedules in it. As we all know, sometimes those schedules last almost as long as our memories. When a schedule change occurs it will be posted in the appropriate location on the bulletin board in the locker room, so check routinely to keep up to date.
Reminder: Tuesday is league play day for March through May, then Thursdays, alternating mornings and afternoons with the PMGA, until the Magnolia front nine is reopened. Hopefully in November we will be playing on the New Magnolia.

NINE-HOLE LADIES’ LEAGUE
HOORAY!!! HOORAY!!!!!. The 2006 golf season is finally here. We begin on March 14th with a new start. This year we will have an opening breakfast and golf afterward. The menu looks just great. The sign-up sheet is in the Ladies Locker Room. Please sign-up soon.
If you haven’t joined this year yet, there are application forms in the locker room. Dues are $18.00. If you have any questions you can call Sue Rantala at 910.215.4518 or Judy Eater at 910.295.1390.
We have a great time golfing in the Nine Hole League. We play the Azalea Course each Tuesday. Most gather for lunch following the round. We may have a special type game set up for the day, or we may play “straight golf”. It is a great league for the new golfer, or the fun loving golfer.
Hope to see you at Opening Day.
Sue Wisniewski

NEWS, NEWS and more NEWS!!!
As we speak, many of the members should be enjoying the new Magnolia back nine. The grass on the fairways and in the rough remains brown and dormant, but soon the appearance of the nine will be far more attractive with the onset of the warmer weather and the green Bermuda grass. Thanks to all the members for their understanding as we worked through the renovation over the past seven months. I will again be asking for your patience as we start the front nine renovations on or around the 6th of June. Until then, all 48 holes of golf will be open and available for play.
Some general housekeeping…
With the dry dormant conditions, please pay attention to discarded cigarette butts. We request that they never be left on the facilities as litter, but as important, please ensure that they are extinguished. A few weeks back, we had an incident where a discarded cigarette butt did cause a fire in a particular area of the golf course.
Walking Dogs…we request that members do not walk their dogs on the golf courses at any times.
Management continues to review the situation with respect to out of bounds on the Holly and the Magnolia Golf Courses. This issues involves various concerns, some being ensuring that play at Pinewild conforms to the rules of golf as outlined by the USGA, ensuring that individuals are not mandated to enter private homeowners property to play a golf shot, as well as the liability related to an individual playing a stroke from private property. As soon as a firm decision has been made, and a timeline established, more information on this issue will be available to the membership.
We have many great events planned for the spring season, both golf and social, and we look forward to seeing you at as many of them as possible.

Club Manager
