PINEWILD WOMEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION
There is no better time than fall in North Carolina. Cool mornings, sunny, warm, dry days. Perfect for whatever you want to do.
The third time was the charm in setting a Holly Gold course record. On September 28thJudy Mills set the initial record scoring an 88. Even the fog couldn’t slow down Jean Grieshaber who took advantage of the next opportunity on October 19th scoring an 81!! Congratulations!!
The rain stayed away for our second Informal Guest Day. It was wonderful to have so many guests for a relaxing, fun day of golf.
We couldn’t have asked for a better 3 days for the Solheim Cup Tournament. Everyone tried to bring their “A” game, although it appeared some of us lost it for short periods of time. It was good competition. Congratulations to the Overall Champions, Chris Johnson and Jane Waldemar with a net 182 for the 3 days. Congratulations as well to all those who placed in the 3 flights.
It was a little chilly for the beginning of the “Queen of the Hill” Tournament. Things warmed up quickly once the competition got underway. Kudos’ to the new “Queen of the Hill” Shelley Rhone!
Our season is coming to a close with only one month remaining. Our last play day is November 30th. Our closing luncheon is Thursday, December 7th. The sign-up sheet will be post by the middle of November.
As this will be my last Perspective, I wanted to say how much I have enjoyed this past season and representing the best Women’s Golf Association anywhere. The board would like to thank everyone for their support. We are all looking forward to a great 2007 season.
Everyone get out there and swing it. Whether the shot is straight or errant, just have fun. Sandy Gruin
NINE HOLE LADIES GOLF LEAGUE…(AKA, NINE AND DINE GROUP)
Hello golfers, by the time you read this article we will have completed our 2006 season. Time sure flies when you are having fun. The “Rally for the Cure” day was postponed by one week due to the rain. The 18/9 hole scramble was held on October 26thand the closing day on October 31st. You will all have to wait until the next article to find out the results of all these activities. I will also be able to tell you who the new officers are for next year.
The Nine Hole ladies group meets on Tuesday mornings. We play the Azalea course and meet for lunch afterwards. The league is made up all levels of golfers. If you are interested in joining this fine group of women, please contact Sue Rantala at 215-4518 or Fran Mellios at 215-0738.
Although our official season will be over on October 31st, we will continue to meet informally on Tuesday mornings; we will form our own foursomes and play golf. Tee-off time will be 10:00 am. Of course, lunch will follow.
That is all for this month. In the meantime, remember to repeat your “swing thought” when hitting the ball.
Sue Wisniewski

NEWS, NEWS and MORE NEWS…
I trust that you are enjoying the great North Carolina fall, and planning for the Holiday Season.
The good warm weather has helped with the “grow-in” of the newly renovated front-nine of the Magnolia Golf Course. All is on track to have the nine opening by the 1st of March 2007. We sincerely thank the membership for their understanding and patience over the past 18 months as we have conducted the renovation.
Congratulations to the winners of the 2006 President’s Cup/Club Championship, they were as follows:
Men’s Club Champion was Chuck Wunsch [223 for 3 rounds gross], with the Men President’s Cup winner being Mike Critzer.
Ladies’ Club Champion was Jean Grieshaber [242 for 3 rounds gross], with the Ladies’ President’s Cup winner also being Jean Grieshaber.
Thanks to all the participants, it was a great event because of your support…despite the VERY testing weather in the first round.
Mark your Calendar – Friday December the 8th is the date for the MEMBER’S SHOPPING PARTY where you can get some great deals on gifts for Christmas from the Golf Shop. The frenzy will start at 4:00PM.
With the onset of the colder winter months…please pay attention and respect the “Court Closure” signs on the Tennis Courts. As the courts are freezing and thawing throughout the day, we want to eliminate any chance of damage to the courts.
Just a Reminder related to the courts…
To receive Tennis information on court conditions…please call 910.295.0358
If morning rain or frost closes the courts, and then in the afternoon they can be reopened, the aforementioned phone number will not have that information. Please call the Golf Shop if this situation occurs at 910.295.5145
Additional information on the condition of the courts as well as the Golf Facilities can be found on the web athttp://www.pinewildcc.com/MemberSite/facilityconditiond2015.html
As many members have noticed, we have again used the “email bulletins” more this year. With so many folks now utilizing the web, as discussed at the latest Advisory Board Meeting, there will be some changes related to the mailing of this Perspective Newsletter.
Effective January 1st 2007…the Perspective newsletter will no longer be printed and mailed to the membership.
The Perspective will be available on the web as it has been [but will be enhanced with pictures and color] and will also be available in the clubhouse for pick-up in a “printed” format.
We feel that in this new electronic age, the mailing of the newsletter is a costly duplication of effort that can be better used elsewhere in the operation…thanks for your understanding.
Some changes will be forthcoming with respect to tee times and play for the upcoming months…
From January 8th through February 11th, we will have a shotgun at 11AM each day…this will eliminate the delays related to frost in the colder winter months.
Also, effective March 1st 2007, we will have all tee times starting with a “split tee” start. This means that folks will be teeing-off in two “waves” [an AM & PM] off the first & tenth tees of both the Holly and Magnolia Golf Courses. We feel that this will generate more prime tee times that are in demand by the membership.
The testing for the new internet-based tee time reservation system [Webres] is ongoing, and appears to be going well. As we get closer to hopefully going live, we will keep the membership posted. In the meantime, as requested on the last two monthly statements, please forward your email addresses [one for the Mr. and one for the Mrs. in the family] to mandy@pinewildcc.com . This will also allow us to update our database for emailings.
Please note the following “housekeeping” issues…
Please ensure that your tennis guests are registered with the Golf Shop, and the applicable guest fees are paid…
With the utilizing of the popular “shag area” on the par 5 of the Challenge course, this amenity is available on a first come/first served basis. Please ensure that you practice safety and courtesy when using the area…
Please note that this publication contains information for both November & December. A shorter December issue will be available on the web, and will be sent via email to those whom have registered there email addresses with the undersigned.
On behalf of ownership and the entire Pinewild Country Club of Pinehurst staff, we wish you and yours a safe and joyous Holiday Season.
Christopher Little, PGA
Club Manager
TENNIS NEWS…
In September, after a morning of mixed-doubles tennis and a luncheon at the Pavilion, we found ourselves sadly saying goodbye to one of our “original members”. Charlie Kerr had been an active member since 1994, the same year the tennis courts were officially opened. We will certainly miss him, his game, his charm and especially his wit.
A big thank you to the Club, from all of us who play the game, for providing us with the new benches on the courts. They have already been put to good use.
Our tennis program is expanding, with scheduled matches now being played Monday through Friday. Anyone interested in joining any of the groups are encouraged to check the bulletin board at the courts for information.
Just a reminder…that anyone playing tennis at Pinewild who is not a member (with the exception of member’s grandchildren) are required to check-in at the Golf Shop, and pay the required $6.00 guest fee…please note this is a club rule.
As of November 1st, our starting times will change to 10:00am. The Monday afternoon players time will remain the same…from 4 to 6PM.
Keep Smashing, the Tennis Committee
