PINEWILD WOMEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION
We’re well into the season and seemingly past the “Hot and Humid” days so strap on those new shoes you purchased and add your name to the growing list of players on Thursday PWGA play days.
Be sure to come out and support our “Ace of the Day” contestants for Queen of Hill on Monday, October 17th on the Challenge Course. This is always a fun time.
There are several low scores to report: Jean Grieshaber had a 71 on the Holly Red during the September Member/Guest and Dee Dee Schmitt had a 77 at the same time. On September 1st Pat King had a 90 on the Holly Red, her lowest round ever. Congratulations to all.
The Nine Hole/ Eighteen Hole Tournament sponsored by the Nine Hole Ladies was a great success. There have been nothing but compliments for all aspects of the affair. Thank you Nine Hole Ladies for sponsoring this very popular tournament.
Our Sadie Hawkins Tournament was just completed and as usual was a fun day. There were six flights and some close scores. Many thanks to Freddy Mastandrea for chairing this tournament for the second year. We will need a new Chair next year, so if you are interested please let Sandy Gruin know. The Sadie Hawkins is a low net tournament and the following were the first place winners in each flight: First Debbie Regula and John Schmitt…Second Lynne Davison and Spike Billings…Third…Gail Corgan and Dave Otto…Fourth Mary Ellen Tindall and Walt Santilli…Fifth Debbie Ogle and Jan Garber and Sixth Carol Smith and Manfred Buller. Congratulations to all.
The Solheim Cup begins on October 10th and as usual this tournament sign up filled up quickly. Best of luck to all participants.
Enjoy the fall and play well.

NINE-HOLE LADIES’ LEAGUE
Hi Everyone, You know “Nothing could be finer than September Golf in North Carolina”. We had our annual 9/18 hole golf outing on September 13th. What a wonderful time we had. The weather looked a little iffy at first, but it turned out that we finished without any rain. The tournament committee put together another wonderful luncheon. Chef Todd outdid himself. The nifty centerpieces were won by someone at each table. The results of the competition were as follows:
Third Place…Judy Block, Debbie Ogle, Nancy Schmidt and Anne Warren.
Second Place…Janet Clark, Pat Finnerty, Connie Heimann, and Bobby Mertins.
First Place…Jeanne DeParis, Jean Opdyke, Karen Wirt and Sue Wisniewski.
Closest to the Pin…Julie Jones, Nine Hole Ladies and Kathy Lannon, PWGA.
The Prizes selected by the tournament committee were very, very nice. I was fortunate enough to win one. Thanks Tournament Committee for all your hard work.
You know we have to count our blessings to be living and playing in such a beautiful place as Pinewild. The camaraderie among the women here is just fantastic. We are already looking forward to next year’s golf outing.
If you are a new member of Pinewild, or if you have been around for a while, the nine-hole ladies are always happy to have new members sign-up to play. If you would like to join or want some information about us, just give Barb Rueb a call at 910.295.4908.
Until next month, remember to “follow through”…Sue Wisniewski

NEWS, NEWS and more NEWS!!!
Thanks to ALL those who participated in the recent Member/Guest…the great weather made for a special event. Congrats to the winners of the overall Men’s and Women’s divisions…Ron Ham & Stan Zabytko and Sally Manich & Lorraine Mullany. A special thanks to George & Pat Watterworth for ALL their efforts as member liaisons for the event.
Thanks to all the members for their understanding as we have renovated the back nine of the Magnolia Golf Course. The work is now complete, and the growing in is going well. I know that there may have been some issues with respect to tee times, but all seems to have gone well for the most part. October is one of the busier months of the year, and there may be a higher demand for tee times. After the 4th of October, we will no longer close one of the nines for maintenance, so we will have 27-holes open on all seven days of the week…this should create additional tee time availability if needed.
Mark you calendars for the President’s Cup & Club Championships which will be held on the 28th through 30th of October [Friday – Sunday]…the sign-up will be posted three weeks prior to the event. .
Enjoy the great fall weather…and see ya at the Pig Skin Classic on the 15th of October.
Christopher Little, PGA
Club Manager
