PINEWILD WOMEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION
Finally we are going into fall and let’s hope the worst of the hot and humid days are behind us.
Our final ‘Ace of the Day’ is Marilyn Mahan with a net 62. Anne Mason is the alternate.
A belated ‘You Go Girl’ congratulations to Debbie Regula for her Hole-in-One on Holly 12. It was a beauty, in all the way! And a very belated ‘You Go Girl’ congratulations to Barbara Tencza for acing Holly #3 on June 17th.
Interclub II played their final match for this season on August 8th at Mid South. The Pinewild Blues placed second overall. Way to go girls!! Interclub I played their 4th match on August 8th at CCNC and are currently in third place. The final match for Interclub I is September 7th at Fox Fire.
Sadie Hawkins is scheduled for September 21. So grab a PMGA fella and swing around the course. National GC is the location for Tarheel on September 11th. An opportunity to play a challenging course and not have to drive hours to get there. We host Pinetop on September 19th. Let’s get a full 16 out there so we can be good hosts to our Pinetop guests.
Remember, the PWGA only functions through the efforts of its membership. Chairing a committee or a special event is not only your way to help, it’s a great way to support the organization and meet and work with a lot of great women. Let Carole Roth (or any board member) know what you are interested in volunteering to chair/co-chair for our 2007 season.
Everyone get out there and swing it. Whether the shot is straight or errant, just have fun. Sandy Gruin
NINE HOLE LADIES GOLF LEAGUE…(AKA, NINE AND DINE GROUP)
Another month has gone by. In spite of the very hot weather, golf went on as usual. So far, our Dollar Game has made $215.00 for our holiday gift giving. The Dollar game is a voluntary game played each week. The play put a dollar in the fund. At lunch we pull the game of day out of the bag. It could be the highest score, most 4’s, low score, most birdies, etc. The pot of the day is split with the winners. Half to the holiday fund, the other to the players.
The next few months hold a great deal of fun activities. The Ladies 9/18 hole scramble will be on September 12th. We will play on the Azalea Course. On October 17th we play a “Rally for a Cure, Susan G. Komen Foundation” fundraiser. The money donated will go for Breast Cancer research. Then on October 26th we will have another scramble with the PWGA. The 18/9 hole game. Details will be in future newsletter. Our closing game and luncheon (say it isn’t so) is on October 31st. As an additional fund raiser for our holiday fund, Rich Rantala has built a beautiful golf bag stand to be raffled off at our closing luncheon.
The nominating committee is getting ready for the 2007 election of officers. We are looking for several people to serve on the board in various positions. Contact Sue Rantala, 910.215.4518 or Fran Mellios, 910.215.0738 if you are interested in participating.
The Nine Hole Ladies Golf League (aka, Nine and Dine) meet each Tuesday morning to play the Azalea course and have lunch. It is a group of non-competitive golfers and welcome all levels of play. Contact Sue Rantala if you are interested in joining us.
Remember golf is a game so let’s have fun…Sue Wisniewski

NEWS, NEWS & MORE NEWS…
Thanks to those members who attended the Advisory Board’s Annual meeting on the 31stof August. The Advisory Board works as a conduit between the general membership and Ownership/Management. Thanks to the members who served recently and will be leaving the Board…Linda Bell, Frank Brewer, Keith Junk, Stu Tuffnell, Steve Leggett and the outgoing President Diane Vosilus…“Your support of Pinewild Country Club of Pinehurst is sincerely appreciated”
New members joining the Board are Miles Baldwin, Chris Johnson, Penny Junk, Dave Newton, Lou Roth and Mike Tenza.
We hope you have enjoyed the pool facility over the past season. Please bear in mind that the pool season will come to an end on the 25th of September. The Outdoor Pavilion remains open, and with the BBQ grills, ample seating and Tennis Facilities, this remains a great area for an evening cook-out or birthday party. Please note the pavilion can be reserved in advance.
The renovation of the front-nine of the Magnolia Golf Course continues to move along nicely, with most of the projects just about one week behind schedule. These “projects” include all new greens complexes, complete reshaping of the 8th hole, renovation of parts of the 6th & 9th fairways, new tees on the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th holes and paving of many of the cart paths. The seeding of at least seven of the greens will happen on or around the first full week of September. The changes look great, and have been well received from many of the members who have been following the progress. Thanks for you patience as we go through the renovation.
The summer heat continues to create difficulties for the Maintenance Staff, particularly related to the greens. The extreme heat in the latter part of July and the first part of August [heat indexes as high as 115 degrees] was the “most difficult” weather in quite some time. The greens are now healing back after aeration, and should be in good condition as we enter the fall.
Some House-keeping related to the Golf Facilities…
– when using the driving range, please ensure that you adhere to the dress code…golfers using the driving range are expected to follow the same dress code rules that apply to the actual golf courses…please also ensure that the appropriate teeing area is utilized for practice…the Range continues to close early on Sunday evenings and around 1:30PM on Thursdays so that maintenance can be completed on Monday mornings and Thursday afternoons. Please also be aware when picking balls off the new chipping green with a “shag-bag picker-upper”…the metal tube can scar the green…
– Please remember to not leave unused “private” golf carts at the first or tenth tees of the courses, but rather return them to the Private Cart Parking area…also, please help us out by leaving empty range baskets at the Range kiosk rather than keeping them in your golf cart, so that they can be utilized by the other golfers…
– We know that many members do like to exercise/walk on the golf facilities…please ensure that this is only done when NO GOLFERS are present…the same goes for walking dogs…
Keep it in the short grass, and thanks for your cooperation and support.
Christopher Little, PGA
Club Manager
