The “Summer Bash” will once again be held on Friday, June 27th. The format for this fun day of golf will be a five-man team scramble. The Gold Tees can be used for those PMGA members who qualify. Congratulations to PMGA member Art Dube for his hole in one on the Magnolia # 7 during the Li’l Abner Tournament with a Driver. Art has had seven holes in one and I am told he is 77 years old. Lots of sevens at play on May the eighth. Art says he doesn’t think he will have any more.

PINEWILD WOMEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION
Remember a year ago when we were wishing for rain, and this year we are wishing the rain would stop!!
Our Member-Guest tournament on May 6th with the theme of “Murder on the Golf Course” was quite a mystery for all of Pinewild – and did we ever discover how many golf balls a red fox can steal in one round of golf. A special thanks to Judy Connelly and Pat Watterworth and their entire committee for the luncheon and very clever decorations, the favors, the gifts and for all the “clues”. Also a big thank-you to Linda Critzer for writing the mystery.
Our TarHeel, Pinetops and InterClub tournaments have begun. In Pinetops, at Southern Pines Linda Critzer and Yolande Paszkiewicz were low gross winners and Gail Corgan, Pat Smith, Diana Santilli, Debbie Ogle, Barbara Cumberland and Betty Mulvaney were low net winners. At Pinehurst Resort & CC, Linda Critzer, Linda Bell, Pat Smith, Denise Petricola and Phyllis Clark helped with the points as low gross winners. Talie Tufnell, Judy Connelly, Debbie Ogle, Betty Mulvaney and B. J. Fulcher were low net winners.
Our InterClub team had an excellent start to the season with an impressive total of 39½ points. The team of Grace Hill, Anne Wright, Judy Mills, Donna Rotonda, Anke Buller, Judith Kelley, Ginger Lash and Gretchen Nelms played Pinehurst Resort & CC at CCNC.
Pinewild will be hosting TarHeels on June 26th. Brenda Hiscott has promised us an enjoyable day of golf and camaraderie. We would love to see some new ladies participate.
Jan Garber and Lois Pollard did an outstanding job in chairing the Magnolia Challenge tournament played from May 13-20th. Most everyone enjoyed the new format. Prizes were awarded at the luncheon that followed. The first place winners were: 1st flight: Gail Corgan, 2nd flight: Marilyn Otto, 3rd flight: Pat Smith, 4th flight: Debbie Ogle, 5thflight: Ann Skrei, 6th flight: Phyllis Clark, and 7th flight: Lynne Moore – Congratulations to all the winners.
After a long drought in “hole-in-one” winners we have had two in the last several weeks. Kay Rednour aced the 15th hole on the Magnolia and Judy Connelly aced the 7th hole. Pat Gannaway recorded her “best ever” score of 90 on the Holly. Our third Ace of the Day is Susan Strine. Nice playing ladies.
We would like to welcome four new members: Joan Frueisen, Ellen Sherman, Sandy Mardigian and Jean Brobst to the PWGA. We now have 177 members.
June 6th will be the NC State Play Day and June 24th will be our summer meeting with breakfast and a shotgun. Note that we will be playing on two Thursdays in June. I’ll see you on the course.

NINE HOLE LADIES LEAGUE
We had a wonderful turnout for our Husband/Wife Scramble on Saturday, May 3rd. The weather teased us a bit but it turned out to be a lovely spring day in Pinehurst! There were 17 foursomes with a 3:30 shot-gun blast! On his first tee shot, #9, Dick Horky got a hole in one!!!
Prior to our lovely dinner in the dining room, we had conversation time, hashing over our best and worst shots of the day! We also had fun filling in the “getting-to-know-you” questionnaire. It’s still a mystery who has the tattoo and the location of same, but we’ll keep searching!
Our winners for the 2003 Husband/Wife Scramble (or as it used to be called, “Husband and Hackers” Scramble) are as follows:
1st Team – Dick Horky, Jess Krall, Marilyn Zimmerman and Carla Jones
2nd Team – David Gray, Mert Mertins, Jean Weiler and Judy Block
3rd Team – Fred Zimmerman, Bruce Townsend, Bette Bower and Mary Binning
Closest to the pin – Bruce Engelking & Judy Block
Lowest Team Putts – Mike Fowley, Bud Kanaley, Lois Millikan and Sue Rantala
Closest Predicted Score – Andy Rueb, Rich Rantala, Norma Johnson and Carol Dunbar
Closest to the Line – Len Block
Most Sandies – Len Block
Most Woodies – Ed & Jean Weiler
Our next BIG event will be coming up September 4th – 9/18 Holers Scramble and Luncheon. We’ll be posting more information in the future!
It’s never too late to join the Group. If you’re interested, call Pat Finnerty (215-0264) or Jane Walling (235-2871) for information.

SKIERS ALERT
The Pinewild Ski Club met on May 6th to eat, drink, and, oh yes, make plans for its 2004 Ski Trip. After hearing the merits of four possible sites, the group voted to honor Big Sky, Montana, with its presence on this, its eighth annual trip. The dates will be January 31st -February 6th, and the group will stay at the Arrowhead Hotel, which advertises ski-in, ski-out condominiums and many other amenities.
While this is the Pinewild Ski Club, participation is not limited to Pinewild property owners. Others are welcome to join in the fun – and it is fun! About 25 of Pinewild’s best take part in the annual ski trip. Some are diehard skiers, others are snow bunnies, but all are devoted to having a good time. Skiing is not the only attraction, though it is the main one. After each day of skiing, many of the skiers assemble in the outdoor hot tub to relax tired muscles and tell “can you top this” stories about the day’s adventures on the mountain. An evening social hour (hosted in rotation by the occupants of the various condominiums) precedes dinner, which is eaten in – or out – depending on personal desires.
If you are a skier (or were a skier in your pre-Pinewild days) and are interested in learning more about the trip and possibly joining the group, give Judy Petersen a call at 295-3991. Judy will be able to give you the details, to include the costs involved. Interested persons need to confirm and make a deposit by early July.

Tee Times will commence at 8:30 AM, and teams will consist of (Male or Female) – One CPGA Professional, One Pinewild Member, and Two Guests. The Entry Fee is $70.00 per Person, and includes All Golf related charges, Lunch, Member Drawing/Cocktail Party on Monday evening at 6:30 PM on June the 30th. The Sign-up is located in the clubhouse. ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES
The Advisory Board held its’ meeting on May 7th, – Highlights were as follows:
– A “Special Thanks” to the Social Committee and the volunteers who helped make the “Jaz on the Mag” a success.
– The US Open qualifying will be on May 19th on the Magnolia.
– The pool opens on May 19th.
– The card and game nights need a greater attendance by the members if they are to continue.
– A “Special Thanks” to Gary and Phyllis Clark for coordinating the Couples Member Guest event. The tournament was a big success with 24 teams competing.
– The election of new Advisory Board Members will be held in August, 2003. Peggy Clark is the Chairperson of the Nominating Committee.
– The cart path, resodding, sand trap work on the #2 hole of the Magnolia is complete with the exception of a drain that will be added.
– The paving and resodding of the #2 cart path on the Holly is also complete. The club spent $12,500 in material for this work and nearly $8,000 in labor.
– The Husband and Wife tournament is set for June 7th & 8th. The sign-up sheet for this tournament will be going up within the next few weeks and we should have a full field. Bob Jones is discussing with the Pro shop about having a shotgun start. This will allow everyone to be together for the awards after the tournament.
– We have changed our ISP and web hosting…we have problems in the transition, but things are now almost back to normal
– Despite the volumes of rain…the courses remain in decent shape
– Card/Game nights…if they are going to be successful, we need more of a concerted effort to attract additional individuals to participate
