Here we are in the month of May, and we have had good turnouts for the events since the Season “OPENER” in March.
Congratulations to all the participants and Flight winners of the Li’l Abner Tournament which went off without a hitch this year.
The weather is starting to cooperate and we will have another busy month in May.
Sign-ups for the away game at Legacy Golf Links are good, but please leave your checks in the drop box with notation for away game on it. We must have the money in by May 1st, 2004 to hold your place for the game on May 11th, 2004.
We are negotiating for an away game at Talamore Golf Club to be held this summer in July.
The Interclub Matches will be held at Pinewild Country Club of Pinehurst on May 3rd, 2004. Please get signed up for that event if you haven’t played in interclub as yet. It is great fun and you meet members of other area clubs at the same time.
Again, the ever popular Blazer Tournament is scheduled to begin on May 7th, 2004. If you have not already signed-up, check the locker room sign up sheet for openings. This tournament is limited to 64 teams. First come first served.
The Summer Bash for all members will be on June 25th this year and sign-up sheets will be coming soon. Look for it in the locker room.
Welcome new PMGA members…Bob Foster, Dick Derleth and Richard Davis.

PINEWILD WOMEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION
Our season has gotten off to a rainy start, having had to cancel two paydays thus far. However, we have many events scheduled, which will be great fun. May is a very busy month.
We start with our PWGA Member/Guest on May 4th. Some lucky (skilled, also) gal has a chance to drive a brand new Buick if she can ace the 15th hole. Good luck, ladies! Marye Bigler, Marlene Johnston and their committee have worked very hard to make this a very special event, with several door prizes as well as a wonderful menu.
We then have our Magnolia Challenge scheduled for May 11th, 14th and 18th. The sign-up sheet is in the locker room and the entry fee is $15 plus $9 if you are staying for lunch the last day. Please make your checks out to the PWGA and put them in the envelope underneath the sign-up sheet.
Looking ahead to June, we have been extended an invitation to play Mid-Pines on June 29th, so put that date on your calendar.
Hope everyone is hitting them long and straight, but whether or not, just have fun.

PROTECTING THE FLAG…
It is a United States of America Flag requirement that when a flag becomes old and tattered, it must be destroyed by burning. In order to do so, the stripes must each be cut out, as well as the field of stars. If anyone has an old tattered flag and they would like it disposed of, Bev Shebs, as a member of the DAR, is the State’s custodian of the Flag and she will be attending a DAR “Flag Burning Ceremony” on June 12th in Fayetteville. If you will bring your flag to Bev by June 6th, she will do the cutting and the correct disposal thereof.
It is that easy…contact Bev Shebs at 11 Abington or 910.295.5058
A Patriotic Benefit Concert will be held from 6:30 – 9:30 PM on May 11th at The Fair Barn.
Featured artists are The Randy Hughes Band, Lefty Compa, Norm Allen and The McKenzie Brothers. “Colonel Bob”, of WIOZ, will be Master of Ceremonies.
The artists are donating their time to help raise the remaining monies needed to pay for shipping the golf clubs, balls and other equipment to the soldiers in Iraq. The clubs are being used for recreation during off-duty hours.
Tickets are available for a $10 donation (each ticket), and a limited number will be sold. Tickets will be available thru Chris Little, Pinewild Country Club of Pinehurst Club Manager, as well as several locations in Pinehurst, Aberdeen and Southern Pines.
Other locations for tickets are: Gentlemen’s Corner and King’s Gift’s (Theater Building in the Village)…Country Book Shop…Gold’s Gym & Nature’s Own in Southern Pines and Robert’s Golf in Aberdeen.
Thanks for the Support and see ya there!!!
