Ahh, June is upon us and the lazy days of summer are not far behind.
The PMGA has been very busy this year with all the events being well attended by the Membership.
Our away game program has thus far been a success. If anyone has suggestions for improvement of our program, please contact our “play day chairman” Jake Schwalb with your written suggestions.
Our next away game is scheduled for July 6th, at Talamore Golf Club. The sign-up sheet is located in the Men’s Locker room.
In August we are returning to Mid Pines Golf Club for our away game on August 17th. Put these dates on your calendar so we can have a great attendance at these events.
The Blazer, the Holly Challenge and Medal Series Events are well under way and are proving to be popular events for the membership.
Coming in June is the Member-Guest One-Day Tournament sign-up…for the event that will be contested on the 9th of July. Sign-up for the event is open until the 25th of June.
The practice round is to be played on Thursday June 28th. Only 60 teams can be accommodated for this event.
THE COST IS ONLY $135.00 PER TEAM…so bring your favorite guest and have a great day of Fun Food & Prizes.
The “Jack & Jill” tournament will be held on Tuesday July 13th this year, so look for your favorite Jill to compete. This tournament is jointly sponsored and run by the PMGA and PWGA members.
Last but not least is our annual PMGA Summer Bash which is to be held on June 25th. This fun day is usually a 5-man scramble and lots of good food & beer will be available to cap-off the day.
Thanks to all our members for the good support of PMGA sponsored events this year.

NINE-HOLE LADIES’
Well, next year we’re going to consult the Almanac before we pick a date for the Husband/Wife Golf Tournament! We were ready to play, clubs and shoes shined, but the weather interfered in a big way!! An hour or so before scheduled play, we had to call it off and just let Mother Nature have her way!!
Despite the rain, we gathered together for mingling and a lovely buffet prepared by Todd and his staff. The buffet selections were great and I don’t think we could improve on a thing! Thanks to the staff who helped prepare the buffet and make the occasion a memorable one!
Even though the Azalea did not challenge us, the horses who were in the Kentucky Derby running did! After serious studying, the “captain” of each of the teams drew a horse’s name out of a basket provided by Jane Walling. When the race began, the dining room echoed with cheers from the crowd, encouraging their horses on to victory!! The results of the tight race are as follows:
Team 4 B…Andy Warren, Geri Kanaley, Lois Millikan and Jim Barnes won with horse Smarty Jones. Each member of the team was awarded a $25 gift certificate to Nina’s Restaurant.
Team 1 A…Ed Rackowski, Barb Rueb, Mert Mertins and Fran Mellios placed with horse Lion Heart. They were each given a bottle of Sterling Vineyard Chardonnay.
Team 7 A…Rich Deparis, Mary Jane Barnes, Donna Nichols and Dick Derleth showed with horse Imperialism and each member of the team was presented 2 tickets to the Sandhills Cinema.
The losing teams offered sincere congratulations, of course, to the winners!
This year marked the 10th Anniversary for the Husband/Wife Tournament here in Pinewild! No matter, rain or shine, it is always a fun event and one we’re already looking forward to in 2005. If someone could loan us a 2005 Almanac, we’d really appreciate it!!
Our next BIG and FUN event will be in September when our 9/18 Hole Tournament and Luncheon is scheduled. We will continue with weekly play until November when our season will end with a Closing Scramble and Luncheon. It is during this event that we elect officers for next year!
So, see you on the Azalea and in the dining room for food and friendship!
Anne Warren

ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES
– The Advisory Board held its’ Monthly Meeting on May 3rd…Highlights were as follows:
– Outdoor BBQ grills have been installed at the pavilion for member use.
– Members that are not receiving communication e-mails from Chris can do so by e-mailing Chris at chrisl@pinewildcc.com
– The Card/Game and Duplicate Bridge nights are now combined and held on the last Thursday of each month.
– Members are reminded to use the cart path that is along side the # 3 Green on the Holly.
– Standard Water coolers (like the water cooler next to the snack bar) will replace the water “jugs” on the golf course, and be installed by the end of the month.
– The Tennis Courts have been resurfaced and relined, and grills will be installed in the pavilion area.
– The pool is scheduled to open on May 17th. Suzy has done a great job with landscaping in the tennis court area, along with her usual good maintenance practices.
– J.D. Millikan will select a Chairperson to form a Nominating Committee to enlist/nominate new candidates for The Advisory Board. Six members will be completing their two year terms this year.
– Lee reminded us that all golfers should “drive where it is green” rather than driving over the same places all of the time, which makes ruts and ruins the look of the course.
– The 150 Yard Poles were discussed…the committee in general believes that this is a big improvement and that they do not negatively affect the appearance of the course. In fact, we feel that they are aiding in the speeding up the pace of play.
– The 10 Stroke differential decision related to two-person team events was revisited, and the committee has agreed to follow the USGA recommendation
– The PWGA will try to reschedule their Member/Guest to avoid conflict with the practice round and the Men’s Interclub.
– The Jazz Dinner was a great success…thanks for the support
